<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring device capable of preventing the deterioration of reliability in object distance detection when tracking the position of an object in the periphery of a vehicle by switching distance detection with a monocular camera and distance detection with a configuration other than a monocular camera. <P>SOLUTION: After a detected distance obtained by a monocular distance detection part 11 becomes equal to or less than a switch distance, a stereo distance detection part 12 detects a distance between a vehicle 1 and an object so as to track the position of the object.
