1,134,007. Chemical sensitization of vacuum deposited silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Dec.22, 1965 [Dec.28, 1964], No.54249/65. Heading G2C. A photographic material comprises a support bearing a binder-free layer of light-sensitive silver halide, the silver halide being chemically sensitized with a first sensitizer which is a compound of silver, gold, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium or platinum, and stabilized with a second and different sensitizer which is a labile sulphur compound. The sensitizers may be contained in a hydrophilic colloid layer overlying the binder free silver halide layer. Specified first sensitizers are those of the formulae R 2 MX 6 and R 2 M'X 4 wherein R is hydrogen, an alkali metal atom or an ammonium radical, M is Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Ru or Rh and X is Cl or Br, auric chloride alkali metal aurohalides, auric sulphate, alkali metal aurous thiosulphates, alkali metal aurous sulphites, gold thiosinamine complexes, complexes of thiourea and auric chloride, potassium aurithiocyanate, 2-aurosulphobenzothiazole methochloride and aurous sulphide. Specified second sensitizers are thiourea, alkyl isothio-cyanates; thiosinamine, potassium, sodium, ammonium, calcium and cadmium thiocyanates, alkali metal and ammonium thiosulphates, cystine and 0-ethly-S-2-carboxyethyldithiocarbonate. |
