PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for measuring a magnetic characteristic of a material.

SOLUTION: The device for measuring a magnetic characteristic of a material is composed of a portable probe (1), an apparatus carriage (2) which holds a low temperature device and an electronic device, and a connection electric cable (3). The probe (1) has a driving coil (4) and a correction coil (5). The driving coil (4) is arranged symmetrically to an internal secondary magnetic field gradient detection coil (8). An electric coil having a length of 2 m and a shape of a Belden (1192A) microphone cable (3) is used to connect a device on the apparatus carriage (2) with the driving coil (4), the correction coil (5), and the detection coil (8).
