1,140,080. Hydrolysed ethylene-vinyl ester copolymers. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 21 Dec., 1966, No. 57241/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C5] A composition comprises a major proportion by weight of an oil or fuel and a minor proportion by weight of an oil- or fuel-soluble hydrolysed copolymer of ethylene and either a vinyl ester of a carboxylic acid or a vinyl ester of a carboxylic acid wherein the vinyl group is substituted by a saturated hydrocarbon group. The hydrolysed copolymers having a number average molecular weight of between 750 and 4000 are claimed per se. In the examples an ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer in kerosene is hydrolysed using sodium hydroxide or sodium metal dissolved in a mixture of methanol and isopropanol. |
