In an electrical machine, e.g. an alternator having a planar air gap between a discoidal rotor 10 and stator 11, the rotor has substantially radially extending slots and teeth 18 to provide flux paths of differing magnetic conductivity in the air gap, and the stator has both an annular exciting winding 12 in the air gap region at which it is divided into concentric inner and outer parts 13, 14 traversed by oppositely axially directed flux, and an A.C winding 15 so arranged in radial passages that each turn extends along the entire radial extent of the air gap. The rotor teeth depth decreases in the radially inward direction, and where, as shown, they are continuous in the gap region, the stator winding turns are circumferentially displaced; in the other embodiment the rotor teeth instead are displaced.</p> |
