A high-pressure mercury vapour lamp, the filling of which contains a metallic iodide, e.g. of scandium, sodium, thallium or thorium, is mounted in a sealed enclosure 1 having a window 3 forming one wall and a reflector 8 opposite the window, the whole being so dimensioned and constructed as to maintain an air temperature of at least 280‹ C. in the enclosure during operation. The enclosure may be made of aluminium with cooling fins 4 cast in. The window 3 is carried by a hinged lid 2 and secured by a look 5 connected to the electric supply so that this is turned off before the enclosure is opened. The reflector is parabolic and may have a collecting angle of 270 degrees. |
