An artificial feed for silkworms comprises, on a dry basis, 20-60 wt. per cent. of protein, exclusive of any mulberry leaf protein present. Preferably the total protein content is 30-40 wt. per cent. on a dry basis. Suitable proteins include soybean, alfalfa, wheat, corn, milk, and egg protein. Other conventional ingredients of silkworm feeds mentioned are carbohydrates such as saccharides, sterols such as #-sitosterol, choresterol, and ergosterol, organic acids such as citric and propionic acid, minerals such as K 2 HPO 4 , MgSO 4 and CaCO 3 , vitamins such as B 1 , B 2 , B 6 , and C, and binders such as agar or starch. The silkworms may be fed on the above feed after their second instar. |
