<p>1,141,030. Laminates. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 26 May, 1966 [27 May, 1965(2)], No. 23698/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] Laminates are prepared from compositions comprising (a) from 1 to 99 parts by weight of a polyarylene polyether having recurring units of formula O-E-O-E<SP>1</SP>- where E is the residuum of a dihydric phenol and E<SP>1</SP> is the residuum of a benzenoid compound having an inert electron withdrawing group in at least one of the positions ortho and para to the valence bonds, and where both residua are valently bonded to the ether oxygen atoms through aromatic carbon atoms, and (b) from 99 to 1 part by weight of a polyhydroxyether of formula where D is the residuum of a dihydric alcohol, D<SP>1</SP> is a hydroxyl-containing residuum of an epoxide, and n is at least 30. The composition may contain 50 to 95 parts by weight of polyarylene polyether and 5 to 50 parts by weight of polyhydroxyether. In Examples laminates are prepared from compositions containing a polyarylene polyether obtained from 2,2-bis-(4- hydroxyphenyl) propane and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dichlorodiphenylsulphone and a polyhydroxyether obtained from 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-phenyl)- propane and epichlorhydrin with several plies of glass fibre mat. Other starting materials are listed. The compositions may be used in the production of sandwich type laminates or bonded directly to a substrate.</p> |
