Two-part record tags of the kind, attached to goods sold in a shop, are prepared for the sensing machine, in a machine, Figs. 1, 2, in which of the tags are severed and one part of each collected in a box 11, a threading device having rods 71, Fig. 8, being passed through holes 22 in the collected tags to remove them from the box and place them in the feed hopper of a sensing machine. The tags are placed in a stirrup 1 of the machine which is then displaced inwardly against spring 63, a lever 14 tripping plunger 24 to bring a plate 23 down on the record. The tag is aligned by pins 21 on plate 23 engaging holes 22. If the tag is incorrectly placed the plate cannot come down to the position in which a switch is closed to start the machine. Operation of the machine is thereby prevented. When the machine starts a cutting plate 36 descends by operation of camshaft 55 and severs the tag by co-operation with an edge of the bottom plate. The part of the tag under the cutting plate passes into the box 11 having been impressed during cutting by a stamp 44 indicating the cashier responsible for the sale. A stamp 43 simultaneously marks the other part of the tag " paid." The stamp 44 is removable and the machine is locked in its absence. At the end of a day's working the box is closed by a sliding cap 70, Fig. 8, and removed. To prepare the tags for the sensing machine they are engaged on the rods 71 of the threading device and after turning the whole assembly over the box is withdrawn, leaving the tags on the rods 71. The top tag is a special tag which was put into the machine first to identify the salesman. When the stack is placed in the feed hopper of the sensing machine, Fig. 10, a sliding weight 73 keeps the tags pressed down to facilitate separation by blade 75. |
