Water-cooled rolls 4 form a glass ribbon 2 which is conveyed through a horizontal lehr 1 on rolls 6 and 3. In the annealing zone of the lehr, walls comprising spaced partitions 8-11, held by spacers 12 in frames 13, are provided. <PICT:1034077/C1/1> Partitions 8 and 9 are respectively of heat-resisting and stainless steel and have coatings 14-17 of a refractory material which provides their surfaces with a heat reflectivity greater than its heat absorbtivity at temperatures of the order of the annealing temperature of glass. The refractory material may be zirconia plus 5% calcium oxide or some other refractory oxide. Partitions 10 and 11 are of aluminium. Heaters 18 are provided to slow the cooling rate of the glass. |
