PURPOSE: A hatch cover device for a cargo ship is provided to reduce the risk of workers by being manufactured in a separate work space which is well ventilated. CONSTITUTION: A hatch cover device(50) for a cargo ship comprises a hatch coaming(54), track ways(60a,60b,60c,60d), first and second hatch cover panels(52a,52b), and a driving source. The hatch coaming is installed above a hatch, and the inside is penetrated in a vertical direction. The track ways are extended and coupled to the top surface of the hatch coaming. The first and second hatch cover panels are slidingly coupled to the top surface of the track ways and the hatch coaming to open and close the hatch. The driving source opens and closes the first and second hatch cover panels and comprises a hydraulic motor, a towing member, and multiple wheels for changing directions. The towing member is driven by the hydraulic motor.
