1,141,151. Treating reels. AMERLINE CORP. 28 Jan., 1966 [28 Jan., 1965], No. 4007/66. Heading B8M. A method of treating reels of the kind having a pair of spaced flanges, particularly moulded plastics material reels, comprises confining the flanges in a substantially planar, parallel condition, heating to anneal, and cooling while in the confined condition thereby relieving the internal stresses and strains. The outer peripheries of the flanges are confined by a wraparound member having grooves engaging the flange peripheries. The flanges are maintained in a substantially planar condition by annular weighted members. Preferably the reels are annealed while stacked one above the other, each having a wrap-around member, and an annular weighted member being interposed between adjacent reels, and at the top and bottom of the stack. In a preferred embodiment the reels are moulded of polyacrylonitrile, the heating being at a temperature of 150‹ F. for a period of one hour, and the cooling being at atmospheric temperatures for a period of four hours.
|
