<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide control of an electric machine. <P>SOLUTION: A method of controlling an electric machine comprises storing a plurality of power maps. Each of the power maps comprises control values for driving the electric machine at different power over different operating speed ranges. The method further comprises selecting a power map in response to an input signal, and exciting a winding of the electric machine at a time defined by the control value of the selected power map.
