<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method capable of significantly reducing the capacity of a memory and performing correction with high precision for all usages. <P>SOLUTION: A display device displays not only a natural image but also a pattern of a single predetermined character, symbol, and graphic form or a combination of two or more thereof on a display screen composed of a plurality of pixels having a self-luminous element. The display device includes: a pattern storage part 102 that stores the shape, display position, size, and gray scale of a pattern, and the cumulative display time of a pattern; a luminance reduction characteristics storage part 103 that stores the luminance reduction characteristics of the self-luminous element; a cumulative luminance reduction amount calculation part 104 that calculates a cumulative luminance reduction amount for each pixel whose pattern is displayed; a correction amount calculation part 105 that calculates a correction amount for each pixel whose pattern is displayed based on the cumulative luminance reduction amount; and an image generation part 106 that corrects an input image using the correction amount to display it on the display screen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
