The device (1) has a contact element (7) arranged at a control lever (6) for contacting a shoulder region (8) of a person (2). The lever is moved such that the contact element remains in contact with the shoulder region during movement of the person between upright standing and forward bending positions. A gripping unit (9) for gripping hands (10) of the person is linearly guided on or away from the shoulder region. A power source (11) pressurizes the contact element towards the shoulder region. Another power source (12) pressurizes the gripping unit towards or away from the shoulder region. An independent claim is also included for a method for training muscles of a body of a person.
