<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for setting up a knitted fabric, capable of knitting a set-up part by split knitting using a flat knitting machine including a compound needle having a needle body and a slider with two blades. <P>SOLUTION: The following steps α to δ are repeated. While a yarn feeder 8 is moved in a forming direction LS, a target stitch 1 of a base end stitch row 10 on one needle bed (BD) is transferred from the one needle bed (BD) to the other needle bed (FD), and at the same time, split knitting is performed to form a new stitch 3 following the target stitch 1 (increased stitch 2) (step α). The increased stitch 2 is transferred to a knitting needle on the forming direction LS side of the increased stitch 2 on a needle bed (BU) facing the other needle bed (FD) (step β). The yarn feeder 8 is moved toward a starting end direction RS side of the increased stitch 2 transferred in the step β (step γ).
