<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cartridge detection mechanism capable of detecting that a cartridge is not mounted or incorrectly mounted at a low cost, and capable of preventing damage to the cartridge or an image forming device body when the cartridge is mounted/dismounted. <P>SOLUTION: The cartridge detection mechanism detects that a cartridge 36 to be mounted on or dismounted from the image forming device body 1 has been incorrectly mounted. The cartridge 36 has an optical member 38. The light from a light emitting part LD disposed in the image forming device body 1 is made incident on the optical member 38.
