<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel which is low in power consumption and has high luminous efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention is a method for manufacturing a plasma display panel, in which a front plate comprising a protective layer and a back plate are disposed facing each other with a discharge space formed therebetween and are sealed and the discharge space is evacuated. The protective layer comprises a base film and metal oxide particles. The metal oxide particles are magnesium oxide crystals. The base film contains a carbonate composite material of cesium.
