[Also in Division F1] An axial-flow fan stator lining is formed of bent strips of metal foil, e.g. aluminium, joined together by adhesive to form a honeycomb structure. This structure is mounted on a backing strip 21 of fibreglass-reinforced thermosetting epoxy resin before the resin has set. The lining may be made up in large sheets and then cut into sections which are secured to the fan stator 11 by screws 22. The lining is annealed, to soften the structure and substantially destroy the adhesive. Thereafter, the running clearance at the impeller blade tips is provided by crushing the assembled lining by one or a pair of rollers 31, 32 carried by an impeller blade 13. |
