The method comprises providing a coating on a surface portion (12) of a raw plate (10) with a layer (14) by a physical vapor deposition, and cutting the surface coated plate to a desired size. The layer is applied by a cathodic sputtering. A subregion of the plate, before coating the surface of the plate, is exposed to a volume treatment and/or a surface treatment. A subregion (16) of the layer of the raw plate, before the cutting step, is exposed to the volume treatment and/or the surface treatment. A heat treatment is performed to the subregion of the plate after surface coating. An independent claim is included for a domestic appliance panel.
