A method of operating a pellet-forming tray for pelletting iron ores, based on the discovery that the power consumed by the tray at a given moment is an index of the quality of the pellets formed at that moment, comprises the steps of determining the range of power over which good quality pellets are produced and automatically varying the amount of ore being introduced into the tray to maintain the power consumed in the predetermined range. Power consumption may be indicated by measuring the input current to the motor driving the tray, and the measuring device may automatically control the rate of flow of ore into the tray. The automatic nature of the control is optional. |
