<p>A data input system includes a wireless input device such as a keyboard 1 or mouse or trackball and docking station 3 which can be connected to a computer system 5( either directly or via a wireless bridge 31 fig 9). When the keyboard 1 and docking station 3 are in proximity or mechanically connected, a new pairing code or key that is different to a previously-generated one is automatically generated by e.g. the docking station or bridge. This new code/key is then transmitted back to e.g. a keyboard 1 over a wireless control link, the keyboard and the docking station 3 or the bridge receiver (31 fig 9). A paired data channel over which data from the keyboard is transmitted wirelessly to the docking station or bridge receiver, and so the computer system 5 is thereby set up. The docking station may charge the wireless input device. Any one input device does not therefore need to be permanently associated with any particular dock.</p> |
