摘要 Polyamides are prepared by reacting a diester of iso- and/or terephthalic acid, which may be substituted by one or more alkyl groups or one or two halogen atoms, and phenol or an alkyl phenol with equivalent quantities of a primary aliphatic or araliphatic diamine at 20 DEG to 150 DEG C. in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent to give a suspension of precondensate which is further condensed by heating a suspension thereof in either the same or a higher-boiling liquid which is a non-solvent for the polyamide at a temperature of 170 DEG to 350 DEG C. near but below the melting range of the polyamide until the polyamide is obtained in discrete particle form with a molecular weight corresponding to a relative viscosity of at least 1.8. The resulting polymer particles may be washed with a volatile liquid and tumbler dried. Specified diamines are tetra-, hexa- and deca-methylene- and xylylene-diamines. Relative viscosity is measured on 1 g. polymer in 100 c.c. phenol/tetrachloroethane (60/40 w./w.) at 25 DEG C. Examples illustrate the preparation of hexamethylene iso-, tere-, mixed iso- and tere-, methyltere-, 2,5-dichlorotere- and mixed tere- and t-butylisophthalamides; tetramethylene, decamethylene and mixed hexamethylene and m-xylylene or hexahydro-p-xylylene isoterephthalamides and mixed hexamethylene and ethylene mixed iso- and tere-phthalamides.
