[Also in Division B3] Pipe bends are formed by casting approximately semi-toroidal dishes which are machined and non-destructively tested to reveal blowholes, cracks, &c., after which sectors 3, 4 having the desired bend angle and being unflawed are cut out of the dishes and pairs of sectors longitudinally welded together to form the pipe bends. The sectors 3, 4 of chrome nickel stainless steel and having a bend angle of 45 degrees or 90 degrees, have a non-uniform wall thickness. The welds 7, 9 and 8, 10 may be replaced by single V-welds. |
