A parachute comprises a canopy 16 of substantially triangular, truncated triangular or semi-elliptical shape, rigging lines 18, 19 connecting the canopy to a load, such as a parachutist 27, and means (e.g. a sleeve 11) for holding the narrower front end of the canopy in a reefed state until the broader rear end of the canopy is at least in part deployed. The canopy may have a keel line 37 and adjustable vents 17 attached via control lines 26 to rings 36 accessible to the parachutist. The whole parachute may be housed in an outer sleeve (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is removed by an extractor parachute (22) which unfurls a strop (23) connecting the extractor parachute to the keel 37 of the canopy 16. The sleeve 11 may have a spiral slide fastener 12 which has a lock 38 removed when the sleeve (20) is removed. Some of the rigging lines 19 may be stored in elastic loops 15 on the sleeve 11.
