摘要 The kinetic energy of particles from the large microscopic to the small macroscopic range can be increased with existing technology by using intense electromagnetic (EM) radiation. Several possible candidate physical processes exist using a single basic apparatus setup. Upon interaction, radiated EM energy is converted to total particle kinetic energy (internal, rotational and translational). Particles with an unprecedented combination of high rest mass and high-laboratory frame kinetic energies may be projected. In the energy transfer processes, thorough particle disintegration by EM radiation may be avoided if the duration of irradiation is briefer than the temporal measurement indeterminacy imposed by Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Impact of the particle on a suitable target will result in "contact and compression" (amongst other heating effects). If the particle surface exceeds the speed derived from the critical temperature, Lawson's criteria will be satisfied and thermonuclear fusion is anticipated.
