<p>An electronic thermometer suitable for use in the measurement of the temperature of a human subject comprises a body 10 on which is a probe head 14 comprising an infrared temperature sensor and display screen 40, an activation button 30 and a mode control button 34 for switching between readings at a forehead and at the ear of a human subject. The probe head may be provided with a flip-up cover 24 which acts to protect the probe head 20 from the ingress of contaminants when the thermometer is not in use. In communication with the infrared temperature sensor is an electronic temperature calculator for receiving infrared sensing data from the infrared temperature sensor and calculating a temperature reading based thereon; and associated with the electronic temperature calculator, a timer that starts a time count on calculation of said temperature reading. The timer is arranged to prevent a subsequent temperature reading being generated until a pre-set time count is reached, thereby establishing a pre-set time delay between the temperature reading and said subsequent temperature reading.</p> |
