PURPOSE: A method for controlling an electronic parking brake system is provided to prevent a braking force from being released against an intention of a driver and to improve ride comfort. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an electronic parking brake system comprises; a step for determining whether or not an engine is in an idle state while a braking force is applied; a step for determining whether or not a transmission lever is shifted to a R-step when the engine is in the idle state; and a step for maintaining a braking force when the transmission lever is shifted to the R-step.
