PURPOSE: A composition containing piperine is provided to effectively suppress inflammation caused by LPS and to prevent and treat inflammatory diseases. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases contains piperine of chemical formula I or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. Piperine is isolated from Piper longum, Piper nigrum, Piper cubeba, or Anethum graveolens using alcohol of 1-6 carbon atoms such as water, ethanol, methanol, propanol, isopropanol, and butanol, and organic solvent such as acetone, ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, hexane, cyclo hexane, petroleum ether, diethyl ether, and benzene.
