摘要 <p>The catalytic reduction of sulphurdioxide by methane to hydrogen sulphide uses a catalyst of manganese sulphide. The reaction proceeds satisfactorily at temperatures above 700 degrees C. cobalt molybdate is another catalyst which can be used, which also requires high temp. between 593 and 705 degrees C. The reaction is carried out at a low space velocity. The present invention provided for the reduction to be carried out at a relatively low temperature and at a high space velocity, at the same time providing elemental sulphur. A combined process is described for the removal of sulphur dioxide from the flue gasses by means of a solid acceptor, regeneration the loaded acceptor with a reducing gas and processing the sulphur dioxide formed in this regeneration to elemental sulphur.</p>
