The device (10) has a thread guide (32) lying at a yarn bobbin (18) or yarn layers, which is arranged on the bobbin, during a winding process. A yarn is wound on the bobbin in the yarn layers by the guide. The guide is moved to and fro by a changing movement (38) along a yarn bobbin longitudinal axis (22) for forming the yarn layers relative to a yarn bobbin holder (16). A foot plate-side end position (40) of the changing movement of the guide and a conical foot plate (24) of the bobbin are advanced relative to each other along the axis during the winding process. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a yarn bobbin wound with yarns.
