A DHCP server is coupled to the network access controller, the DHCP server operable to allocate a lease for a network address to a computing device after receiving a notification from the network access controller to indicate that MAC authentication of the computing device has been completed. The notification may be transmitted via a UDP socket to a port of the network access controller which is preferably stored as a predefined environment variable. The DHCP server may be configured to transmit a lease assignment notification message to the network access controller before allocating the lease. The DHCP server may further comprise a timer for determining that a notification is received from the network access controller within a predefined time window. The DHCP server may proceed to allocate the lease after the timer has expired.
