PURPOSE: A digital broadcast transmission method is provided to efficiently transmit and receive a caption in transmission environment based on an open cable and a cable ready standard. CONSTITUTION: An MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) demultiplexer(501) demultiplexes a transmitted MPEG-2 transport stream to a video, an audio, and control information. A PMT(Program Map Table) and an EIT(Event Information Table) in a PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol) of the control information are stored in an PMT buffer(502) and an EIT buffer(503), respectively. A user processor(504) finds caption data included in a digital cable broadcast based on kinds of a caption service which is set by a user through caption_service_descriptor information stored in the PMT buffer or the EIT buffer.
