In an improved catalyst manufacture, a trivalent metal compound of the formula: is reacted with a compound of divalent metal Y-O-M-Z, wherein M' is a trivalent metal, M. is adivalent metal, Z is OR 3 ) or an acyloxy radical, one of the radicals X and Y is R 4 , the other being an acyl radical, R, to R 4 radicals being hydrocarbon monovalent radicals, and the resulting catalyst is treated with a primary alcohol containing at least two carbon atoms, in an amount of at least 0.01 mole per gm. atom of trivalent metal present in the product, and an alcohol selected from methanol and tertiary alcohols. The treatment with the primary alcohol may be preceded by a thermal treatment (150‹-300‹C). The metals specified are A1 and Zn, used in the Examples as the alcoholate and carboxylate respectively. |
