The method involves receiving a configuration index that is transmitted from a data service provider through a portable data carrier (10). The configuration index has configuration options related to a data service. The configuration option is selected from the configuration index by the portable data carrier. The selected configuration option is adjusted for the data service during the data service provider by transmission of the selected configuration option from the portable data carrier to the data service provider.
