The device (10) has reading devices (12a to 12d), which are formed to transmit data to a contactless data carrier. The reading devices are controlled such that a reading device-personalization data is transmitted to a contactless data carrier. A reading device random data is superimposed with the personalization data. A central control unit (20) is provided for controlling the reading devices. An independent claim is included for a method for personalizing contactless data carriers, particularly contactless chip cards.
