A method for storing a message based on status information of the message, and a mobile terminal for performing the same are provided to solve a problem that a user cannot check a current status of a message being currently transmitted according to a user request, a standby message waiting for re-transmission after being failed to be transmitted, or a message which has been permanently failed to be transmitted because it is failed to be re-transmitted several times. A memory unit(140) includes an outbox(142), an inbox(144), a draft box(146) and a sentbox(148). A smart card connecting unit(130) allows a smart card such as a USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module)(10) storing status information of a message to be inserted thereinto. A controller(120) checks the status information of the message stored in the smart card through the smart card connecting unit, and if the status information of the message corresponds to a state of a message being transmitted, a state of a standby message waiting for re-transmission after being temporarily failed to be transmitted, or a state of a message failed for transmission, the controller stores the corresponding message in the outbox. |
