PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for measuring an average coated thickness of a specimen for a ship are provided to predict a coated thickness according to a coating technique and a pattern test without measurement. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and a method for measuring an average coated thickness of a specimen for a ship comprises a power part(110), a mode setting part(130), a hold part(120), a paint weight measuring part(170), a coated thickness calculating part(150), a storage part(140), and a display part(160). The power part supplies AC common power. The mode setting part sets a towing mode or a balance mode of the measuring apparatus. The hold part maintains the towing mode or the balance mode. The paint weight measuring part measures the weight of coated paint. The coated thickness calculating part calculates the coated thickness. The storage part stores data supplied to each part. The display part displays the data supplied from each part.
