A friction unit for wear testing of materials includes a sample and counter-sample with smooth working surfaces, those have same distances between the ends placed at each side in same planes, and rectangular ledges obtained by turning, with same dimensions at the side of the edges in places of transition to working surfaces. Rectangular ledges are arranged at the side of only one edges of the sample and counter-sample in places of transition to working surfaces, and those are placed at opposite sides with respect to those working surfaces.
