[Also in Division G1] Gearing for correcting inaccuracies in a speedometer reading brought about by changes in tyres, gear ratios and wheel sizes comprises a pair of opposed face gears 32, 35 secured to driving and driven shafts 25, 26 respectively, the gear 35 being resilient and being forced into engagement with the gear 32 at one point by means of a headed pin 39 mounted in a casing 18. The resilient gear 35 may be made of nylon or the material having the Trade Mark "Teflon". In a modification, a two-stage gear comprises resilient gears 49, 50, Fig. 5, on driving and driven shafts 45, 46, pressed into engagement with opposite sides of an intermediate idler gear 51 by pins 55, 56. The pins may be spring-pressed and controlled by solenoids. |
