PURPOSE: A tangential direction cutting insert is provided to improve a clamping force of a cutting insert on a pocket of a cutting tool. CONSTITUTION: A tangential direction cutting insert(100) comprises a front surface(101), a rear surface, a though hole(103), an upper surface(110), a lower surface, a right side surface(130), and a left side surface. The front surface and the rear surface are arranged in front and rear as a thickness direction. A through hole passes through the front surface and the rear surface in a central part of the rear surface and the front surface. The upper surface comprises an upper side plane(111), an upper side groove(112), a first main cutting blade(113), a first main cutting blade(114), a second main cutting blade(115), and a second main cutting blade(116). The lower surface comprises a lower side plane, a lower side groove, a third main cutting blade, a third main cutting blade, a fourth main cutting blade, and a fourth main cutting blade(126). The left side surface comprises a left side plane(131) and a left side recess(132). A right side surface comprises a right side plane(141) and a right side recess(142).
