PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve processing efficiency when a controller and a recorder cooperatively perform processing related to recording.

SOLUTION: A host computer 10 includes: a processing ability discrimination section 26d for discriminating a device capable of performing image data generation processing in a shorter time on the basis of evaluation obtained when the image data generation processing is performed by a printer side image data generation section 13a of a printer 11 and a host side image data generation section 26b of the host computer 10 through the use of test image information; and a device selection section 26c for allowing the image data generation processing to be actually performed by the device discriminated to perform the image data generation processing in a shorter time by the processing ability discrimination section 26d.
