<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image pickup device capable of attaining overflow processing with a simple circuit configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The solid state image pickup device includes: multiple pixels arranged two-dimensionally; a reference signal generation circuit for generating a lamp signal; a counter circuit for performing a count operation in accordance with the output of the lamp signal; comparison parts for comparing signals arranged for each column and read from the pixels with the lamp signal; and storage parts arranged for each column and storing digital data. When the outputs of the comparison parts are not inverted during an AD conversion period, a predetermined value of digital data is stored in the storage parts.
