<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization optical device capable of reducing an effect of heat deformation to improve accuracy of image performance. <P>SOLUTION: A polarization optical device includes a polarization element holding member. In the polarization element holding member, a window through which light is incident from a light source is formed, and a packing material placement surface and a slide surface are formed in a stepwise fashion. Both of the packing material placement surface and the slide surface have a frame-shape, and the slide surface is smaller by one size than the packing material placement surface and is arranged at a position deeper by one step than the packing material placement surface. The slide surface abuts against the peripheral portion of a rectangular reflective polarization element, and slidably supports the reflective polarization element. In the packing material placement surface, a packing is placed which seals the peripheral portion of the reflective polarization element. A pressure sheet metal is almost rectangular and presses the packing, and is provided with a plate spring to urge the reflective polarization element toward the slide surface. In the polarization element holding member, the reflective polarization element is placed on the slide surface, and the packing material is then placed on the packing material placement surface. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
