[Also in Division C3] A bond is formed between a polymer and an adhesive by treating the surface of a hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon polymer or polyamide body by subjecting the surface to a stream of gas only the gas being non-reactive when contacted with the polymer at S.T.P. and having been excited electrically to produce a glow discharge for a period of at least one second, so that the polymer is rendered capable of forming a bond with an epoxy, polyamide, silicone or polysulphide adhesive, and placing the adhesive on the surface and maintaining at a temperature below the melting point of the polymer for a time sufficient to cure the adhesive. The polymer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylfluoride, a hexafluoropropylenetetrafluoroethylene copolymer, or nylon. The adhesive may be a mixture the diglycidyl-ether of bisphenol A and diethylaminopropylamine.
