Finishing textiles with acid polymers to render them

Textiles are finished by impregnation with aqueous baths which contain (i) strongly acid polymers in dissolved and/or dispersed form and (ii) compounds RX, where R is a 10-20C alkyl pref. saturated, X is OH, COOR1 or COO-R2, R1 is hydrogen or a lower oxyalkyl or polyoxyalkyl with a total of 2-6C and R2 is an oxyalkylene group with a total of 2-6C. The textiles are then dried. The textiles have improved soil-released properties and a soft feel. The treatment is applied to mixtures of natural and/or regenerated cellulose fibres with synthetic fibres, especially mixtures with polyester or polyamide fibres, to pure synthetic fibres, particularly polyesters, and to mixtures of wool and polyester.
