1,264,866. Broaches. F. W. SCHMIDT. 24 March, 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 15368/69. Heading B3L. A broaching tool comprises a plurality of individual cutting elements 12 each-formed with a cutting edge e.g., serrations 46, retaining means 26 for securing said cutting elements in a broaching array, and interlocking means including contoured surfaces 16 on opposed faces of each of said cutting elements, said contoured surfaces extending along substantially the full length of the cutting elements to a position closely adjacent the cutting edge 46 to provide complementary interengaging mating portions on adjacent cutting elements. The cutting elements are threadedly clamped between end blocks 20, 22 by the retaining means 26. The contoured surfaces 16 may be provided by V grooves and projections, serrations, tongue and grooves, or part circular surfaces. The assembled tool is clamped in a holder (48) (Fig. 5, not shown) by means of a clamping bar (52) engaging in notches (50) in the sides of the tooth elements 12. |
