<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information acquiring apparatus acquiring information on a subject while reducing the number of steps required to acquire a light amount distribution. <P>SOLUTION: The subject information acquiring apparatus includes: a light source capable of generating light with a first wavelength and a light with a second wavelength different from the first wavelength; an acoustic wave detection unit detecting a photoacoustic wave generated by illuminating the subject with light and outputting a detection signal; and a signal processing unit acquiring the information on the subject based on a first detection signal output by the acoustic wave detection unit when the subject is illuminated with the light with the first wavelength and a second detection signal output by the acoustic wave detection unit when the subject is illuminated with the light with the second wavelength. An effective attenuation coefficient of the subject at the first wavelength is equal to an effective attenuation coefficient of the subject at the second wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
