The device (14) has a hazard sensor designed as an acceleration sensor (16) for generating a measurement signal, and a discharging unit (31) discharging a fuse material i.e. damping substance e.g. polyurethane foam, in a region of an electrical energy storage device (12). The discharging unit comprises a valve (24) for initiating dispensing of the fuse material. A control and evaluation unit (20) receives the measurement signal to detect a hazardous situation in dependence of a measuring signal and discharge the fuse material by the valve in dependence of the situation. An independent claim is also included for a method for securing an electrical energy storage device in a motor car during a hazard situation.
