<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine which can be operated by a diesel process with LPG being its fuel without using any external ignition. <P>SOLUTION: The reciprocating piston internal combustion engine includes a step of supplying combustion air and compressing it in a cylinder, and a step of injecting diesel fuel and LPG fuel into a compressed combustion air in the cylinder by a fuel injection mechanism. Diesel fuel is mixed with LPG fuel by a fuel mixing device (60) before diesel fuel and LPG fuel are injected. Uniform fuel emulsion consisting of LPG fuel and diesel fuel is firstly generated.
